Weight Watchers was an existing client relationship. I had been their social strategist at Big Fuel — overseeing creative and community management through a period of significant platform growth. When Big Fuel lost the account, the new agency pitching for the rebrand wanted me on the team specifically. I contributed the audience strategy that shaped the "Beyond the Scale" direction — the shift from diet restriction to holistic lifestyle, and the identification of Oprah not as a spokesperson but as a co-signer whose life proved the positioning. The pitch won. The rebrand launched. The stock doubled on the Oprah announcement.
Weight Watchers needed to reposition from a diet brand to a lifestyle brand — and they needed an audience strategy that made the repositioning credible rather than cosmetic. The brief arrived through Alldayeveryday, a new agency pitching for the account. I was brought in specifically because of my existing relationship with the Weight Watchers client team and my prior strategic work on the brand at Big Fuel. The task was to identify the positioning direction and the right proof point that would make it land.
The strategic call was to eliminate "diet" from all marketing language entirely — not soften it, not qualify it, remove it. That's a harder decision than it sounds. It means every touchpoint, every piece of copy, every channel has to reflect a fundamentally different relationship between the brand and the people it serves. A partial rebrand produces cognitive dissonance rather than belief.
The Oprah identification came from the same logic. The repositioning needed a co-signer whose actual life proved the point — not a celebrity paid to say approved things, but someone whose public history with their own body made "Beyond the Scale" feel true rather than aspirational. Oprah as investor and board member is a completely different signal than Oprah as spokesperson. That distinction was the strategy.
Pitch win for Alldayeveryday on the Weight Watchers rebrand account. "Beyond the Scale" audience strategy and positioning direction contributed. Stock doubled on Oprah partnership announcement. Rebrand successfully repositioned Weight Watchers from diet program to lifestyle platform. Client relationship sustained across two agency transitions — from Big Fuel through to Alldayeveryday.
